Separatism in Canada

Throughout the late 1950's and the early 1960's, there was a rejuvenation in the campaign for separatism in Québec since the 20's.  This came mostly because of the mostly because of the socioeconomic situation that Québec was in, as they felt they had no need for the rest of Canada's economy, because their economy was booming.  The Rassemblement pour l'independance Nationale(RIN), was a completely liberationist party during the time, that won 9% of the Québec vote, a huge win for them at the time.  And then during 1968, one of the most popular Quebeckers, René Lévesque, former broadcast journalist and liberal cabinet minister, started a new party, the Parti Québecois.  There goal was to establish political independance, while also retaining economic association.  Lévesque was easily able to rally most of the national political groups, including, one group that wasn't so political, the FLQ.
